I'm offended at the fact that you think that your helping people by telling them that the way they feel is immoral. So because I want to die makes me a freak in the eyes of God and I will be cast out into the abyss of darkness for an endless amount of time because I couldn't handle the world that I was set into. How do people like you get permission to even be around someone that is considering suicuide. I talk to God, I am a believer. Christian. But my suicidal tendencies, in your eyes, hold me from the gates of heaven. So when I commit suicide, which is a given, I will be cast to the devil. Ah, huh
My response is in Green:
I wanted to address this message even though I received your next one which apologized for sending this one. You did not need to apologize for writing this. I don't mind people expressing their opinions, but it does bother me when they don't state my position correctly.
There are two different issues here. One is the suicidal tendencies or thoughts. I have never said that is a sin, much less that it would keep anyone from heaven. The second issue us the act of suicide. Yes I have said that is a sin and I have said that I believe that if you commit suicide by making a rational decision to take your own life that I believe you would not go to heaven.
Before I go any further I want to address your message to me as a whole. I want to recopy your whole message but change the word suicide for something else. Here goes:
I'm offended at the fact that you think that your helping people by telling them that the way they feel is immoral. So because I want to molest children makes me a freak in the eyes of God and I will be cast out into the abyss of darkness for an endless amount of time because I couldn't handle the world that I was set into. How do people like you get permission to even be around someone that is considering molesting children. I talk to God, I am a believer. Christian. But my pedophile tendencies, in your eyes, hold me from the gates of heaven. So when I commit pedophile acts, which is a given, I will be cast to the devil. Ah, huh
I am pretty sure that you will be upset with the words I chose to change suicide to. However, I am trying to make a point. Having suicidal thoughts is not a sin. Having pedophile thoughts is not a sin either. Committing suicide is a sin and so is molesting children. So my question is this; if a pedophile wrote me the same message should I tell him that of course molesting children will not keep him from heaven? Or should I tell him that having the tendencies is not a sin but acting on them is?
Or I could have used any number of other sins, such as homosexuality, or lying, etc... The point is that we all have different temptations and tendencies, but when we follow through on them it is sinful.
There are some Scriptures that you need to take a long hard look at. (Hebrews 10:26-27 NIV) If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.
You made the statement that it was a given that you would commit suicide. Well as I said that is a sin and it is not a given, it is a choice and you need to make the choice not to do so. Nor is it a given that a person with homosexual or pedophile tendencies will follow through with them. Now I will tell you it is probably a given for a non-believer, but not if you are a Christian.
Look at these passages: (Hebrews 10:26-27 NIV) If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.
What I am teaching is tough, I realize that but I believe it is what Jesus taught. We must follow Him. We must deny ourselves and put Him first in our lives.
(1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NIV) Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.
(Romans 14:79 NIV) For none of us lives to himself alone and none of us dies to himself alone. If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.
It is pretty hard to honor God with your body and kill it at the same time. As the passage from Romans says, we do not live for ourselves nor do we die for ourselves. We live and die for the Lord, meaning that it is up to Him when we life and when we die. When we take that decision out of God's hands and commit suicide we are telling God that we want to be the god of our own life and that we either think He does not care enough to help us or is unable to help us.
You can find many people out there that will tell you that a Christian can commit suicide and still go to heaven, but I am not one of them. God has even put things about suicide in the Bible so that you can gain strength by reading about them. Look at this passage: (2 Corinthians 1:8-11 NIV) We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about the hardships we suffered in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired even of life. Indeed, in our hearts we felt the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us, as you help us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many.
Notice that Paul says these things happened so that they would learn to lean on God. He also says that he was helped by the prayers of other believers. So there are two positive things you can do. Lean on God and ask your Christian brothers and sisters to pray for you.
I will continue to preach that sin is wrong. All sin is wrong. But there is hope through Jesus Christ. (1 John 5:1-5 NIV) Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.
I hope you will find hope and freedom in Christ. It is not a given that you will commit suicide unless you give up and allow it to happen. It is not God's will for your life.
