I just wanted to let you know that you did not win my award. my awards are based mainly on the site design and graphics and your site did not meet my high standards.. but that dosent mean that you cannot come back at a later date to submit new changes :o) I always welcome sites..
But my main reason for writing was becasue of the content on your site... about christianity and such.. I was raised as a christian and I feel I do need to share this with you to give you a different point of view.. my problem with christianity is the fact that it teaches the person to strive for perfection and to remain closed minded to many things of reality... it is humanly impossible for a person to become perfect and we never will become perfect....
I just got done reading the info at this url http://www.behindthebadge.net/why.htmland found a bit of it intriuging... where the young man decided to bash your beleifes and told you to take your God and shove it... you made a statment saying in return to the email.. "I want you to know the truth. God loves you no matter how you feel about Him, but He requires you to accept Jesus into your heart before you can have eternal life."
Yes I agree God does love us no matter how we feel about him but one dissapointment about christianity and how it sees the only God as requiring us to accept Jesus to be able to gain life after death? This is not true of God but is only true of the christian religion, jesus is a deity al his own and only par tof the christian reliogion.. God is there for us and loves us always but he dosent require the acceptance of jesus for us to gain a new life after death, The bible was rewritten and translated from so many languages that man had an opportunity to place or rewrite what he wanted and what sounded better, therfore the Bible cannot be thought of as 100% out of the mouth of God..
Even though I was raised a christian I have never been one... I know God is there and loves me and I get the peace and acceptance in my life that I need, the christian religion teaches that, thats impossible without striving for perfection or following the bible to a T.. we are DOOMED, sorry but thats not true and that sounds definately like a mans thinking....
In your thoughts however on the why page were very good I liked the fact that you decided to become open minded and do what you feel in your heart and reach out, instead of being very limited and closed minded like the christian religion teaches or the Bible for that matter...
I have been to all sorts of churches all my life and have heard many preachers say they have a direct line to God... I have been given very different out looks on the religion and decided it was to choking and to limited as well as closed minded to even practice, God I have decided is not like that and it is not fair of the Bible to claim such a limitation on a human beings life...
I have heard everything-- and I have listend to many people tell me I am wrong, but it there eyes they are right, but how can I be wrong when the proof of what I am saying lies right there in peoples lives and in the Bible itself...
Thank you for listening and I do commend your efforts to spread the Love of our one and only higher power GOD (no matter what the higher power is called he/she is still there for us all) To give us the hope we seek and the peace we need to become good people within and to others.. to respect the mother earth and treat all her animals and life within with respect... :o)
Have a great day and blessing to you
p.s. if you feel you want to write back I would be honored I have some very good christian friends on the internet :o) But know this I am very knowledgable and don't be suprised if I tell you a few more things and open up your view to a whole new way of thinking :o)
My response is in Green:
I am always open to others view, but you have misrepresented God's view. Notice I said God's view not Christian's view. You said that Christians teach that you have to strive for perfection and follow the Bible to the T or you are lost. I am sorry but that is simply not true. I try very hard not to quote too much scripture when I respond to people because I know if you don't believe it and I simply quote it you won't care. However, since you made these statements I feel I should refute them using the scripture. Here is an example, I must set the context for you. This verse was written to believers, people who were already saved: (1 John 1:9 NIV) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. Notice he talks about us confessing our sins. Now if Christians are required to follow the LAW (Bible) to the T then these people have fallen short. My point is that none of us is perfect and none of us will ever be prefect in this life. If it were possible to be prefect we would not need Jesus. This next verse shows that very clearly: (1 John 1:10 NIV) If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives. So if a Christian claims they are perfect they are not really Christians.
You also said you have a problem with Christianity because it teaches that Jesus is the only way to heaven. Well I will agree with you on that one. But do you understand why Jesus is the only way? This is where I am at a disadvantage, you know what I believe but I don't know what you believe. You said you believe there are many ways to God (higher being whoever that may be he/she). Well that would make me believe that you totally discount everything in the Bible, since the Bible clearly teaches this is not true. So all I can do is explain what I believe, which is stated in the Bible.
The reason that we need a savior is that we are all born into sin. You can see this clearly in the world. You looked at my page so you know that I was a Police Officer for 7 years. Believe me, I have seen the evil that people do. No one is innocent. When a child is old enough to think and speak you don't have to teach them to lie, it comes natural, you have to teach them to tell the truth, which does not come natural. That is the sinful nature that we are all born with.
God on the other hand is holy. He has never sinned and because He is holy He can't stand sin. His holy nature demands that anyone who sins must die. He cannot change His holy nature and if He sentences us all to death then although He is just, He would not be merciful. So what is a holy God to do? Well He did something that we as humans would never have done, He sent His Son to die in our place. Jesus came to earth as a human while remaining God and lived a sinless life, then He died for us. It was not just a physical death, it was a spiritual death. When He died God took His wrath and judgment for our sins out on Jesus. So now all we have to do is believe that and ask Him to forgive us. Period that is it. We do not have to be perfect, because we never will be anyway. I will tell you, however, if you accept Christ as your savior and really understand what He did for you, it is natural for you to want to live as good of a life as you can to honor Him. You will still make mistakes and sin but you will not want to because you know that it hurts Him when you do.
You also said that because of the translations of the Bible you can't believe it is the true Word of God. Well there are many old manuscripts that you can check out for yourself. There are thousands of copies of old manuscripts in different languages which all agree. The modern translations were taken directly from the oldest of these manuscripts, so the one thing you can be sure of is of any old work the Bible is the most accurate. Let's face it you problem with the Bible is that you don't like what it says. Right? I will let you in on a little secret, I don't always like what it says either, but that does not make it right.
I don't like all the laws we live under in the US either but that does not mean that I can ignore them, they are still the law.
If the Bible is just a book full of rewrites and mistakes and whatever else you think, how do you explain it? How do you explain that this book which is just a book has changed so much of history? Wars have been fought over it. Many leaders have tried to destroy it, outlawed it, punished people for reading it. Yet it is still the best selling book ever. People are willing to give their life up before renouncing it. Speaking of which. You don't even have to read the Bible to know something special happened 2,000 years ago. The Romans were very good historians. Without the Bible you can still prove that Jesus lived, that He taught what is in the Bible, that He had followers. That He was put to death and when He was, His followers ran and hid. You can prove that three days later, something strange happened to His followers. They became bold. In the end hundreds of His followers died before they would renounce their faith in Him. All that can be proved without even opening the Bible. Why would a bunch of men and women be willing to die instead of saying Jesus was a no body who is dead? Be honest with yourself, could it be possible that they really saw Him again alive after those three days? If they did then they realized that they too will live again with Him, even if they die physically. That is what has given strength to Christians since that time.
You said you were glad that I had an open mind. Thank you, but don't confuse that will lack of conviction of the truth. See I also grew up in a Christian home, but I never really had a personal relationship with Christ. When I went off to the Marine Corps, I left Christianity behind. I did many evil things, because my heart was evil. My point to telling you that is to let you know that I am no blind sheep. I have been there done that. One reason I know that Jesus Christ is who He says He is, is because of what He has done in me. I am not the same person I was then. I am certainly not perfect, but I know that God loves me and that He sent His Son to pay my debt. That makes me want to serve Him.
Well thanks for listening.
