You need to be educated a little more

I have not been to your site but read some of the responses and discussions you had (I just bump into them). It looks like a lot of the people that writes back to you are not very nice to say the least and just plain ignorant. I am glad there is people like you that wants to give a nice message to the rest of us. However, you also need to be educated a little more. The Bible itself, not the message, is just a book like any other so why believe in it. If you believe that what is written in the Bible is true than you should have no problem believing what other old books may say. I mean; what is the difference that makes the Bible the truth and not any other book? If you agree, you may want to read about The Dead Sea Scrolls. They are just writings from the same time Jesus was around and are more of a historical record than a religious point of view.

Just by reading the Bible without looking for a message, but trying to make sense of the events, you will find that a lot of the things it talks about could not be true. For one thing, there is no way Jesus died on the cross. Nobody dies that way in three hours, or, did god make him die to set the example. Also the translations are not perfect and therefor misleading. ex: The word translated into virgin actually means young woman, big difference. Lets be logical about it and investigate a little more. I am Christian because I was thought that way as a child, but now I grew a brain and I just can't accept things blindly. Logic is basically what makes us understand the universe around us and lets us make a better life for ourselves. Logic is also the one that drives us to look for the true. Some one once told me that God will answer all my questions after we go to him (die an go to heaven) when he could not respond to some of them (actually none of his answer made sense to an intelligent person). He also said something that sounded like God wants us to stay in ignorance and believe blindly. This friend of mine is a religious leader so he does represent God's word in many ways. If God doesn't want us to think that much, why bother giving us intelligence? I can explain poverty, crime, and suffering in general, thru religion or in scientific way so that doesn't tell me that God does not exist, but why was he present all the time in Biblical times talking to a lot of people and now that we probably need him more he is nowhere to be found?

My response is in Green:

Well thanks for writing me. At first I thought you were going to tell me I was doing a good job, but then I saw that you totally disagree with most everything I say. You say you are a Christian because you were brought up that way. That does not make you a Christian. To be a Christian you have to follow what Christ taught, and believe in Him. Since your message appears to try to contradict the basis beliefs of Christians it would appear to me that you are not really a Christian. I just wanted to get that out in the open right up front.

Several places in your message you tell me that logic or intelligence would tell me that the Bible is not true. Well I say that logic and intelligence will tell you that the Bible is like no other book ever written. It predicted things hundreds even thousands of years before they happened to the tiniest details. Many people and countries have tried to outlaw the Bible but have not been able to stop it.

Let me give you one example of something that logically and intelligently says there is something special about the Bible. Here is the passage: (Revelation 11:7-10 NIV) Now when they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up from the Abyss will attack them, and overpower and kill them. {8} Their bodies will lie in the street of the great city, which is figuratively called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified. {9} For three and a half days men from every people, tribe, language and nation will gaze on their bodies and refuse them burial. {10} The inhabitants of the earth will gloat over them and will celebrate by sending each other gifts, because these two prophets had tormented those who live on the earth.

This is the part that I want to look at:{9} For three and a half days men from every people, tribe, language and nation will gaze on their bodies and refuse them burial. This passage was written around 100 AD by the Apostle John. But lets say as people like to do that this was really written several hundred years later. So lets say it was written at 500 AD, no one would argue that it was at least written by then. Anyway, do you realize that the technology to make this happen did not exist until the Gulf War in 1990? Look again at what it says; all the people of the earth will watch their bodies. That is easy for us to understand now, CNN and FoxNews could have live cameras on the bodies and anyone in the world with a TV can watch the bodies. But you can't look at that as if it were written 3 years ago, even if we use the date of 500 AD that was written 1,990 years before it was physically possible to do it.

You said that no one dies in just three hours so the whole story of Jesus dying on the cross can't be true. Have you really read the story?(John 10:17-18 NIV) The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life--only to take it up again. {18} No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father." We see from this that Jesus gave His life up after 3 hours. No one could have killed Him if He had not allowed it.(John 19:30 NIV) When he had received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. Notice He gave up His spirit.

You also mentioned the translations and said that the world translated virgin really means young woman. Well you are only partly right. Yes it can mean young woman but it can also mean someone who has not had sexual relations; i.e. virgin. Now either you believe the Bible account or you don't. The Bible says that Mary conceived because of the Holy Spirit. Now if you believe that, then it does not really matter what word they translated, the baby did not have an earthly father. If you don't believe that, then it does not matter if she was a virgin or not. My point is that people get so worked up about whether the word really means virgin or young woman, but they miss the point that whatever the word the rest of the story says she did not have sexual relations with anyone and therefore Jesus did not have a earthly father.

You also asked why God does not talk to people now like He did in the Bible. Well I think He still does talk to people, maybe not in an audible voice, but He does speak to those who will listen. Secondly, He has given us His Word so that we can know Him and understand what He wants us to understand. The people who lived in Biblical times did not have the Word of God like we do today.

You said if I believe what is written in the Bible then I should believe all the other old books. Sorry that does not make any sense to me. That is like saying if I believe in what a science text book says I should also believe in what every other book written the same year that text book was. Why should I?

I have a question for you. Have you ever read the Bible and really tried to understand it? Have you ever asked God to reveal Himself to you, so you could understand? Have you ever done any investigations on the Bible and how it was written; the efforts to destroy it; archeological facts proving the Bible; secular writings which verify part of the Bible; etc...? Don't take my word for it. Don't take anyone's word for it. Check it out for yourself.

If you died tonight what do you think will happen to you? Think about it and be honest with yourself. Can you really believe that after this life there is nothing... I can't. I look around and I see God's hand in nature. I can't believe that all of this came from nothing by chance. Now that is blind faith, to believe that everything we see and know and taste and smell and us ourselves; came from nothing by chance over billions of years. If that was true and it took billions of years there is a problem. Scientist know that the Sun loses a certain number of feet of its mass each year. I am sorry I don't remember the number, but anyway, if you know that then you can count backwards and add that many feet to the mass of the Sun for each year it has existed. Now if you add that amount of feet and times it by billions of years, guess what? The Sun would extend out to about Saturn. No earth, no primordial soup, no life, no nothing except a really big sun. But if you use the time period given by the Bible (about 6,000 to 10,000 years) it would not be a problem.

Many of the things in the Bible appear to be hard to believe at first, but you have to dig deeper and do the investigation for yourself. No one but you will answer for what you believed or did not believe, so it has to be your decision.

One last point. God could and will one day 'prove' to every human Who He is. But at this point, He demands that we believe without seeing. Yes that is called faith, but again it is not blind faith. There are many ways to prove that there is a God and that He sent His Son Jesus to die for our sins. But it is like everything else, if you don't want to believe then you probably won't. Look at a child, you tell them the stove is hot, you show them the burn mark you got when you were a kid because you did not believe your parent that the stove is hot. You explain that you can't always see heat, but it is still hot. You tell them that if they touch it, it will hurt. Then you leave the room. What happens next? Many kids will reach right up to see if you were right, and touch the stove. What other proof could you have given them? I guess you could have grabbed their hand and put it on the stove for them, but then what purpose would that serve, if you did not want them to get burned? Again my point is people refuse to believe things because they don't want to believe them. Don't get caught in that trap. Check it out for yourself.
