How can we know for sure we are going to heaven?

Thanks, Ralph.... I was praying for answers and stumbled across your web page. That "stumble," was the Lord leading me to you. I hope to see you in Heaven, but because I am a sinner I'm not really sure if I am truly invited. GOD BLESS!

My response is in Green:

If you are a sinner then you are invited to heaven, but you don't yet have your ticket, so to speak. If you truly understand that you are a sinner who is under judgment by God for your sins, and you realize there is nothing that you can do to change that, then you are ready to accept the free gift of salvation that God offers you. We were all born into this world as sinners and we have all sinned. It is these sins which God cannot stand and for which He has sentenced us to death in hell. Yet He loves us, so since His holy nature will not allow Him to just forgive and forget, He sent His Son Jesus to earth to die in our place. Jesus was dead, but then He arose and is now in heaven. All we have to do is believe and ask Him to forgive us. As you said, all you have to do is RSVP the invitation to heaven. Ask Him to forgive you and come into your heart and you will cross over from death to life. My point is you can know for sure. God says anyone who believes and accepts Christ as their savior will be saved. It is your choice.

God loves you, and He wants you with Him for eternity, but it is your choice. I hope to see you in heaven too.

Ralph, thanks for the insight about getting to Heaven. Jesus, while in the flesh, on earth, was perfect. As human beings we are imperfect. I get confused sometimes... I definitely choose Jesus as the Son of God, and my personal Savior, but my imperfect humanness is not deserving of God's invitation... But while on earth I don't think God expects me to be perfect like his Son, Jesus. Right? Do I make sense to you? Thank you for your prayers.

That is the beauty of what God did for us. We will never live a perfect life, but as long as we are trying, then we are covered by Jesus' righteousness. When God the Father looks at us all He sees is His Son's righteousness. So as long as you have Jesus as your personal Savior and you are trying to live for Him, you will get into heaven. That is the good news which is what the word gospel means.

Take care and God bless you,

Ralph, I do very much appreciate your correspondence about JESUS, our mutual Savior... I pray daily and feel His presents and guidance strongly, without any doubt.

Have you ever heard of a Harold Campen of Family Radio, Inc. They are very fundamental Christians. Brother Campen, has an open forum each night from 8-9 p.m. I have received great insight about the bible, and false prophecy. In particular with churches that add to the bible or put extra words, or delete certain words. In Revelations, John states that no one is allowed to change the bible and its words. In doing so we are disobeying God's laws. He states that all the visions and works in the Bible were done when the Bible was being written. When the bible was completed that was that, meaning that all Visions and miracles in the bible will not be repeated. He even states that talking in tongues in some Christian belief is wrong... He believes that the Christian having visions or speak in tongues are not tapping into God, but rather a false prophecy or even inviting Satin into their life. Again, his point is after the bible was completed, it will never be repeated until Judgment Day.

He also claims that God has already chosen the people to be saved by Jesus, that we really do not have a choice in the matter. Many of the callers that pray to Jesus or have speak in tongues prayer groups are down right petrified and feel much shame and guilt because they are now second guessing themselves about their practices. I can somewhat understand, never to forget that Satan is the Master of disguise, and can come in a dream as God or an Angel to confuse a person. Since those type of visions from God are not to be repeated, it simply is not God. Brother Campen is not saying that God does not perform Miracles in contemporary times, but He will not repeat what He did in the Bible now that is completed. The message is be very cautious and don't be fooled. What do you think?

Thank you for explaining. That would explain why you are not sure if you are invited into heaven or not. The fact is if you believe as Mr. Campen does no one can be sure, not even him. I have not heard of him before, but I outright reject what he is preaching. If you will permit me I will show you why I reject it.

To believe that God chooses and we therefore have no choice and further that we can't know for sure if we are part of the chosen or not is to reject much of what the Bible says. It also makes God unfair and unjust, which He is not. I say that because the Bible clearly teaches that we are all sinners and under a death sentence from God: (Romans 3:22-24 NIV) This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, {23} for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, {24} and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

Notice it says to ALL who believe!! Now people will say that only God can make a person believe so it is still up to Him. Well again I might believe that only God can allow someone to believe, but I also believe that He extends that ability to everyone, otherwise He lied in His word as the next few passages would show:

(John 3:16-17 NIV) "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. {17} For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

It is in plan words, God loved the WORLD not just part of it, and WHOEVER believes in Him shall not perish. You have to play word games to make it say anything other than what it says in plan English (or Greek or Hebrew for that matter).

(2 Thessalonians 2:9-10 NIV) The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, {10} and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.

How can they refuse something when they did not have a choice to begin with? God does not lie!

(Mark 16:16 NIV) Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

(John 3:18 NIV) Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.

(John 3:36 NIV) Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him."

Again how can a person reject anything if they have no say in the matter?

(John 10:9 NIV) I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture.

(Acts 2:21 NIV) And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'

(Acts 16:30-31 NIV) He then brought them out and asked, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" {31} They replied, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved--you and your household."

(Romans 10:12-13 NIV) For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile--the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, {13} for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

Here is an interesting verse in light of what this guys says: (Romans 10:14 NIV) How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?

If God chooses who will be saved and who will not then why must anyone preach, God will save whom He will and whom He doesn't won't be; period. This verse says people need to be witnessed to so that they can believe. Again I believe God is showing that He has extended grace to everyone. It is our choice because He gave us the choice.

I am sorry I if I sound like I am upset, but I hate it when people discourage others and make God out to be someone He is not. Either we can trust all of His Word or we should trust none of it. If you have believed on the Lord Jesus Christ as your savior and asked Him to forgive you; you will go to heaven guaranteed. Not by me but by God Himself!! I don't care what anyone says. If God lied about that then we have no hope!!

One last verse then I am done. (Romans 5:12-18 NIV) Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned-- {13} for before the law was given, sin was in the world. But sin is not taken into account when there is no law. {14} Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who was a pattern of the one to come. {15} But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God's grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! {16} Again, the gift of God is not like the result of the one man's sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification. {17} For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ. {18} Consequently, just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings life for all men.

Notice the last two words: ALL MEN either it is available to ALL who ask or God's Word is a lie. I will go with it being available to all who ask.

I did not address the other things he has said because I feel this is the most important. I would tend to agree with him about some of the other things, but not all of them. We should be very careful not to make blanket statements unless the Bible specially addresses a point. I felt that the Bible does address the point about salvation so I felt confident about speaking to that area.
