How is your Christian philosophy a good thing?

I hope you are keeping up with your email as I am hoping for an timely response.

I am not religious, at all. I believe in science and reason. Logic can solve most anything. I truly believe that this catholic christian whatever thing is bunk. Here is my argument.

God supposedly is good in nature and doesn't want bad things to happen. Now FYI I was molested on approximately 10 ocassions when I was young. I can accept that the first or second time someone was trying to teach me a lesson. However 10 times is excessive. What gives with your god? I have gone through and are still going through all sorts of mental anguish [no sympathy please I take pain well]. What sort of long terms plan does he have for me? Does he want me to go section 8 [welfare] or in a nut house?

There are many alternative ways, much less destructive, to make a person stronger willed.

I am also a hermaphrodite. No this is not an abomination. No this is not abnormal. I have seen abnormal. I am not. What was your god thinking when he birthed me as a boy-girl? Was he on drugs? I had gone through numerous operations, years of therapy just to accept myself as a female and to make me feel ok with myself. How is in your christian philosophy a good thing? How is it good for babies [supposedly a gift from god] to be born with all sorts of birth defect variants? Its good god made this baby with no arms or legs? Come on now.

What about all the violence, murder and sorts out there? If god can control us and steer us to the good path whats up with this going postal and killing people for whatever reason thing? I don't want to hear that "Well god wants us to be good people but sometimes the devil intervenes". BS If god made us he made our minds and souls. Therefore he can or at least should in theory be able to control them. If someones about to kill someone, why not take away the would-be killers life? I don't know, drop a piano or something on him.

I have a theory about christianity. I think good old King James contracted Shakespeare to write a book called the bible. Shakespeare did some research on the past. Took some old stories and old folk tales and made them all link together. That way it looks like the bibles been around awhile. It also helped King James calm his people down because they were in such a religious uproar.

I'm really interested in your response. I'd like to hear what you have to say. Please address my issues and do not go in circles about how great god is and stuff. Just be forward with me.

My response is in Green:

Thank you for writing me. I try to keep up with my e-mail, although I get a lot of it. I will try my best to be forward with you as you called it. You have made some assumptions and I in turn will be making a couple of assumptions. For instance I am assuming you hold the position that Christians believe that every thing that happens is to teach us lessons. I believe that is what you think because of the way you put several things. I don't believe for a moment that most things happen to people to teach them lessons.

Here is what I believe, which I get from the Bible. I believe that we live in a sinful world. I believe that we are all born with a sinful heart and have a tendency to do evil. I am very sorry that you were molested at all much less so many times when you were young. I believe those who molested you did so out of the evil in their heart, not in some perverse why so that God could teach you a lesson. That is not the God I know. He loves us, you, me and all of humanity and does not do things just to jerk us around or teach us lessons. That is not to say that He will never use something that happens to us to draw us to Himself. This all comes down to the question of who God is and who we are in relationship to Him.

First God is a holy being, who has existed forever. He has no beginning and He will have no end. He is complete in Himself. He needs no one for anything. He does not need companionship, He is not lonely, He is not bored, He does not need to experiment to see what will happen; in all aspects He is complete in Himself. Notice that I said He was holy. That is something that is kind of hard for us to understand, but here is a very simplistic explanation of what I mean. He has never done anything wrong and He never will. His nature precludes Him from sinning or doing anything wrong. Because He is holy He cannot stand to be around sin. All sin is an offense to Him.

Now to who we are. When God created humans, (Adam and Eve) they were perfect. They did not have to worry about disease, or depression, or sickness, or wild animals or poisonous foods, etc.. Everything in this world was perfect. There was no death. They would have lived forever just as they were. The animals did not die either. God only told them that they could not do one thing and that was to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. That was it, they could do anything else. But of course that is what they did and as a result God cursed the whole earth. Death and decay started the moment they disobeyed God.

The world was no longer perfect and the way it was suppose to be. Now animals killed and ate each other and death was the order for all things. The disobedience of Adam and Eve was the first human sin, but every sin since then has also been a disobedience to God and His holy nature. The punishment for sin is death. We will all die physically but this death is a spiritual one, called the second death.

After Adam and Eve sinned all humans were condemned to die for their own sins: (Ezekiel 18:4 NIV) For every living soul belongs to me, the father as well as the son--both alike belong to me. The soul who sins is the one who will die. Now we also know that we all have sinned: (Romans 3:22-23 NIV) This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, {23} for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God... God could not change the law which said you have to die for your sins because His holy nature would not allow sin to go unpunished. Yet He loves us, so He sent His Son, Jesus to die in our place. After Jesus died God the Father raised Him from the dead.

We can receive this free gift of salvation from God by simply believing that Jesus is God, that He died for our sins and that He is alive now in heaven, and by just asking Him to forgive us of our sins. (Romans 10:9-10 NIV) That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. {10} For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.

Again I am sorry to hear that you have had problems and that you were born as a hermaphrodite, but I think you are asking the wrong question. You asked what God was thinking, but as I just explained this is all part of the curse of sin on the world. God did not think it would be fun to see what you would do or try to teach you a lesson. You were born the way you were because of the fallen state of the world. Let me ask you something. If you don't believe in God, which I am again assuming due to some of your statements, then way do you feel you were born this way? And why do you think children are born with birth defects? Chance? Just part of evolution?

See in a round about way I think we both believe much the same thing as far as the reason these things happen. It is part of nature. The difference is that I believe it is part of nature because of the sin of man, and I guess you think it is just a part of nature period. Either way it is not because God wants to jerk humans around or teach us lessons by allowing horrible things to happen.

You also asked something that I have thought of in the past. If God is good and can control everything why does He allow evil people to live? Why not kill a person the first time they sin? Here is my answer, because He loves us and is a merciful God. You see we have all sinned. God demand death for all those who sin, just like I said before. If He killed each person the first time they sinned, then no one would ever be able to live long enough to accept His free gift of salvation.

We would love to judge for God and say well this person deserves to die but this one doesn't. That way those who do things we don't like would be killed before they could do anything else. The problem with that is that it does not take into account what God thinks of sin. All sin is a crime against Him.

Remember you asked me to be forward (bold) with you, so I am going to be. Your theory about Christianity being made up by King James is easy to disprove. Let's look at your idea that King James had Shakespeare write the Bible. Have you ever heard of the Dead Sea scrolls? You might want to check this out for yourself, because it totally dispels your idea.

Let's look at your idea from another point of view. If Shakespeare wrote the Bible how do you explain the fact that he wrote a bunch of things about the end times in which he said that the Jewish people would be a nation living in the Middle East? I ask that because at the time Shakespeare would have written the Bible there was no nation of Israel. How could he have known that not only would they again be a nation, but that they would be a hot bed of the world? How could he have named cities which were unknown in his time but were later verified by archeologist? How could he write this book (the Bible) and have it change human history and none of the rest of the stuff he wrote have anywhere near the same impact? How could he have written a book which so many countries and rulers have tried to destroy but not been able to?

One last question about Shakespeare's Bible, how did he manage to get Islam to have a book which quotes out of the book he had not even written yet? The Koran quotes the Bible and the Koran was written before Shakespeare lived. You would have to have just about as much faith in Shakespeare as I have in God to believe he wrote the Bible.

Well I would like to go on but this has gotten pretty long already. I hope I helped answer some of your questions. If you have more please write back and ask me. I enjoy discussing what I believe. I believe if you are going to believe something you should be able to explain why you believe it. The Bible itself will give you a lot of answers to your questions, you should try reading it with an open mind. I want to leave you with one last thought. God loves you, He wants to help you, but you have to first get your sins taken care of.

Take care,
