Thoughts to Ponder

Should Christians be tolerant?

In this discussion tolerance is "The capacity for or the practice of recognizing and respecting the beliefs or practices of others." Respecting does not mean, respecting their right to those views, but rather accepting or embracing their views as valid.

Many well meaning Christians tout tolerance without much thought to what it means. We hear many Christians saying that we should tolerate Islam. Is this correct? If we are not tolerant of it what does that mean? There are questions that need to be answered.

Islam is in direct opposition to Christianity. A Christian cannot afford to tolerate it. They do not worship the same God that Christians do, no matter what you have heard. It is not a peace loving religion, again no matter what you have heard.

Christians are being killed in all Islamic countries today. Islam hates Christians as much as they hate Jews. You should never be tolerant of someone who wants to take your life. September 11, 2001 was not just a terror attack, it was a religious attack on what the terrorist considered a Christian nation.

You many know a few Muslims and think they are very nice people. I know a few and I think they are very nice, but that does not change what their religion teaches. Many Christians have no idea what the Bible says and therefore have strange views of what they think Christianity is. So is it so surprising that many Muslims, especially in the United States are unaware of what their religion teaches, which is violence and death to those who refuse to convert? The so called radical Muslims are just better versed in their religion, they are not extremist as we are being told, they are just true to what their religion teaches.

When I say we should not tolerate Islam, I mean that we should not respect its beliefs or embrace Muslims as brothers. I am NOT advocating limiting what a person can believe or practice but I am saying we need to call a spade a spade and quit embracing an evil, hate filled, murderous religion just because it is a religion. Trust me they don't tolerate Christians, unless they have to and then only until they can do otherwise.

The state-owned TV1 channel, which like the rest of the Saudi media is tightly controlled by political and religious police, broadcasts the sermons of government-endorsed Wahhabi clerics who call for the destruction not only of Israel and Jews, but of Christians and other "infidels" all around the world. We should not be tolerant of evolution in our public schools. Evolution is a religion, it is based on zero fact and it is in direct opposition to Christianity. Does it surprise you to hear me say there is zero fact behind evolution? It might if you have attended public school in the past 40 years, yet that is the truth. It is shrouded in half truths and out right lies. But it is taught as scientific fact.

What is a child to think? They are told that they are attending school to be educated, they are told that they should listen to their teachers and study hard to learn what they are being taught. So when the teacher in first grade tells the child that the earth is 4.5 billion years old and that is reinforced in every grade from then on, what is the child to believe?

That same child might be taught at home that God created the heavens and the earth, but will that make him disbelieve what he is taught in school? No, it might, however, cause him to start believing that there is a gap between the 'days' of creation. This is a very popular idea now days even in mainstream churches. Why? Because these people believe the lies of a different religion. They believe that there are facts to prove that the earth is very old and since a literal view of the Bible will only allow you to believe the earth is 10,000 years old or less they feel they have to somehow make the two opposite views agree.

What happens when a person starts to believe these lies? Well for one, they quit believing God's word literally. Think about how the devil tempted Eve. He did not give her a complete lie, he just twisted what she had heard herself. Once she had doubts about God's word, then she started to doubt God's motives and the next thing you know billions of her offspring were born into sin.

Eight out of ten Americans call themselves Christians, but look at their views:

54% believe truth can be discovered only through logic, human reasoning and personal experience.
42% believe that when He lived on earth, Jesus Christ sinned, like other people.
59% believe the devil, or Satan, is not a living being but is a symbol of evil.
74% believe that when people are born, they are neither good nor evil; they make a choice between the two as they mature. (Information taken from the Barna Research Group, http://www.barna.org)

God's word clearly denies all of these, but when people don't believe in taking it literally you get a wide range of belief's. Don't fool yourself about this having nothing to do with the religion of evolution being taught in the public schools. It has everything to do with it.

I have heard parents claim that they send their children to public schools so that they can be missionaries in the world. Or so that they can be salt and light in the darkness. That is dead wrong thinking. Be warned that your child will believe what he or she hears coming out of the mouths of teachers day after day and reads out of text books year after year.

Most homeschool parents – at least Christian ones – understand what the education establishment has known for a long time but won't often admit: that there is no such thing as values-free education. With the banning of Christian values and their replacement with humanistic ones in the public-school system, we have witnessed the adoption of bizarre ideas having little to do with academics and everything to do with social engineering, directly resulting, ultimately, in the corruption of educational quality. Paul addressing the Corinthians told them they were too willing to put up with, or tolerate, other teachings.

(2 Corinthians 11:3-4 NIV) [3] But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent's cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. [4] For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough.

(2 Corinthians 11:19-20 NIV) [19] You gladly put up with fools since you are so wise! [20] In fact, you even put up with anyone who enslaves you or exploits you or takes advantage of you or pushes himself forward or slaps you in the face.

Jesus addresses this same point in Revelation with His letters to the churches. One He commends and the other He condemns.

(Revelation 2:1-3 NIV) [1] "To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: These are the words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand and walks among the seven golden lampstands: [2] I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked men, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false. [3] You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary."

(Revelation 2:18-20 NIV) [18] "To the angel of the church in Thyatira write: These are the words of the Son of God, whose eyes are like blazing fire and whose feet are like burnished bronze. [19] I know your deeds, your love and faith, your service and perseverance, and that you are now doing more than you did at first.
[20] Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols."

The church at Ephesus would not tolerate wicked men and Jesus acknowledges them for that. He did not tell them to be more loving towards these men, He commends them for their intolerance. The church at Thyatira on the other hand was willing to tolerate false teaching and Jesus condemned them for it.

We are not to sit by as our country and our children are corrupted by false teaching and wickedness. We are to call sin what it is; sin. We are not to tolerate open sin, or false teaching. We should not send out children into a den of wickedness to be taught falsehoods which contradict what God's word says.

Am I down on the public schools? You bet I am! I have friends who are teachers and my own father retired as a public school teacher (which he did while also being a full time pastor). My point is that there are some very good, God fearing teachers in the public schools, but that does not make the school less dangerous spiritually for your children.

Look at the agenda of the public schools. They teach the kids relativism. What that means is that the child is taught that there is no absolute right or wrong, in any given situation they must decide for themselves what is right and what is wrong. They pass out condoms in the name of safe sex, although they know that there is no such thing as safe sex outside of a monogamist marriage. They indoctrinate the children in homosexuality. They don't just teach tolerance which would be bad enough, but they esteem homosexuality. Children are given books to read about the homosexual lifestyle as if it were a normal thing. They read about homosexual parents, in books such as Heather Has Two Mommies or Daddy's Roommate. These books are written for age groups from 5 to 8.

God was taken out of the public schools in the 1960's and things have not been the same since. SAT scores have gone down. Teen pregnancies have gone up. Teen suicide has gone up. Teen homicide has gone up. Sexually transmitted diseases have gone up.

The schools will not allow a child to take an aspirin from home in case she gets a headache, but the school has no qualms about counseling the same girl on getting an abortion without her parents' consent or knowledge.

We should not be tolerant of abortion. Yes it is legal in the US and therefore we must admit that a woman has the 'right' under the law to have one. That does not mean we have to embrace it or tolerate it. Start voting for people who will do something about abortion. Write your leaders and tell them this is an issue you are concerned about and which you believe is morally wrong.

We should not be tolerant of homosexuality either. Again that does not mean we should assault or abuse them, but we should not tolerate their open displays of wickedness in public either. Before God was taken out of the public schools 48 states had sodomy laws and now only 24 do and those are not often enforced.

We should not be a party to their wickedness and we should call it what it is. We should not be a member of a political part which embraces abortion or homosexuality. If we are then we are embracing it and we are part of the problem.

We should not tolerate open homosexuals in the Military. It kills moral and will destroy units. We should not tolerate women in combat roles. This is not equality, it is wickedness. God created men and women differently with different roles and we should up hold the biblical role of both men and women.

I very recently received a letter from a man who was upset because on my website I dared to say that homosexuality was a sin. Actually I did not even say it, I just quoted from God's word, but he was upset that I would put something like that on my webpage. He even made the statement that I was trying to close heaven's door in his face. I wrote him back and told him that his problem was with God not me, all I did was repeat what God says in His word.

He wrote me back a second time and told me I was lucky I did not live in his country, because intolerance like that was a criminal offense. You might be wondering in what totalitarian country this man lives. Well it was New Zealand. Now before someone writes and tells me that my information is wrong, let me just say, I have no idea if this is really against the law or not in New Zealand. I am going by what the man told me. I will tell you that it is possible that this same thing will become a criminal offense in the US shortly.

Why do the homosexuals want hate crimes legislation so badly? Having been a Police Officer I will tell you there are already plenty of laws against physical abuse against both homosexuals and non-homosexuals. If I am a criminal and I kill someone does it matter whether I did it because they were homosexual or not? No! I believe the death penalty is biblical and you can't take a murder's life more then once, so why add changes of hate crimes on top of murder? Or on top of assault, or whatever the crime was.

There is one reason and only one reason for hate crimes legislation and that is to protect wickedness. To keep people from speaking out against sodomy and wickedness in our society. See once there is hate crimes legislation it will be possible for anyone to judge your motives about almost anything. If you condemn homosexuality, that could be a hate crime. If your church is hiring and you refuse to hire a openly homosexual pastor, that could be a hate crime. If you have a webpage which quotes the Bible on homosexuality that could be a hate crime.

We as Christians need to wake up to what is happening. We need to quit being tolerant of this evil in our land. Not only will God withhold His blessings from us if we tolerate evil but we will be opening the way for persecution of ourselves.

(Matthew 24:9-14 NIV) [9] "Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. [10] At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, [11] and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. [12] Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, [13] but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. [14] And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come."

Will we be told to be tolerant of our own persecution too? We need to get involved now. Let our lawmakers know how we feel and how we will vote. Most of all we need to get on our knees before God and pray for our leaders and our country.
