I am an eighteen year old girl who has have problems with cutting and I wonder why and where these problems come from. do you think in even matters where they come from and why they are there?
Well I do think it matters where it comes from, but I think I can help you. First let me explain that I don't believe you have demon, but I do believe that is where the thoughts of cutting yourself come from. Satan hates you because like all mankind you were created in God's image. God loves you and that makes the demons mad and hate you. Let me show you from the Bible that you are not the first cutter. (Mark 5:1-5 NIV) They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes. When Jesus got out of the boat, a man with an evil spirit came from the tombs to meet him. This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him any more, not even with a chain. For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him. Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones.
Now this man did have a demon, but as I said I don't think that is your problem, but I wanted to show you that this is a favorite trick of demons. If by chance you are into the occult in any fashion you need to stop now. One reason this cutting appeals to people is that it seems to give emotional release and they feel that they should suffer. Those are just thoughts that the demons puts in people's head. God loves you and sent His only Son to die in your place and therefore you do not need to suffer, you just need to come to Him.
God tells us that He hates sin: (Ezekiel 18:4 NIV) For every living soul belongs to me, the father as well as the son--both alike belong to me. The soul who sins is the one who will die.
We are all under a death sentence because we have all sinned. God is holy and can't stand sin. That puts us all in a very bad position but thank God, He loves us inspite of our sinful natures. (John 3:16 NIV) "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." God is Holy and He can't just forgive and forget our sins, His Holy nature demands justice and payment for those sins.
God did something that we find hard to even understand: (Romans 5:8 NIV) But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
What does 'Christ died for us' mean? If we will believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that He died for our sins, and if we confess our sins (admit them to God) and ask Him to forgive us He will. And if we believe that after He died God the Father raised Him back to life then we will be saved and if we die we will go to be with God. (Romans 10:9 NIV) That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. But it also means that if we die without getting right with God we will go to hell for eternity and suffer in punishment for our sins.
So the first step is to get right with God, get out from under that punishment and be free. Then you need to give God control of your life. Many people have a lot of trouble giving God complete control of their lives. They try to retain a little control, kind of keep God in His place. That won't work. Let me give you a little Scripture to explain what I am talking about:
(Romans 6:16-18 NIV) Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey-- whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted. You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.
Notice that we are never set free to control our own lives. We are either a slave to sin or a slave to righteousness. That is what most people don't understand. God will never help you take control of your own life, He wants control and either you give it to Him or you remain a slave to sin. That does not mean you are not saved, it means that your sinful nature is still in control. Nor does it mean that if you give God complete control, you will just be a robot without freedom of choice. You will just be able to make a choice which is not clouded by your own sinful nature.
This is not talked about much anymore, but it is what the Bible calls sanctification. This is when we are freed from the bondage of sin and God takes control of our lives.
(Romans 8:1-8 NIV) Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit. Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God´s law, nor can it do so. Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.
Notice in verse 6 Paul tells us that the mind controlled by the Spirit is life! God will help you, but you have to be willing to give complete control to Him. Admit that you can't do it. There truly is victory in Jesus.
I am sure what I am saying sounds easy and in a way it is, but in a way it is very hard too. It is hard for us as humans to let go and give God everything. This is how people are freed from drug abuse, homosexuality, alcoholism, cutting, etc... But first you have to get right with God, or in other words, get a personal relationship with Him and that can only be done by confessing your sins and placing your faith in Jesus Christ.
I will pray for you. Ask God to help you understand.
