I have nobody to turn to.

Im not at the point yet that i think about suicide all the time, but i have in the past and i probably will in the future. i always feel so alone and i am constantly depressed. i have nobody to turn to. im not a religious person so i don't turn to God. i don't know what to do anymore and im tired of crying at night. i don't know what to do.

My response is in Green:

I think you pretty much answered your own question. You said you don't turn to God, I think you should.. Find out who He is and what that means to you.

I can give you a short course in who God is and what that means to you. First, God is the Creator. He created you and me and everyone else. He created us in His own image. That is why there is a difference between us and the animals and it is the reason people who don't believe in God try so hard to say we are nothing but animals. He created us for His pleasure, so that He could show us how much He loves us. The problem is that Adam and Eve rebelled against God and did what He told them they were not suppose to do. God does not play that game and punished them and as a result all of their children, including you and me.

Many people can't understand all of this, but it is very important to our discussion. God is a holy being, which means that He has never done anything wrong nor will He ever do anything wrong. He can't stand sin and His holy nature demands punishment for all sin.

We as humans tend to grade sin on a scale. This one is worse than that one, but to God all sin is horrible and deserves death. That is what the punishment is, spiritual death. We were all born spiritually dead because of the sin Adam and Eve committed. We have a tendency to sin. You can see that in the world around you. Look at a child, you don't have to teach them to do wrong things, you have to teach them to do what is right. The wrong things come naturally to them.

So we know that God is holy and we are sinful. We know that God demands death to anyone who sins and we have all sinned. Romans 3:22b-23 (NIV) There is no difference, {23} for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God...

That leaves us with a major problem. We have all sinned and are under a death sentence from God. But that is not where the story ends. God loves us: John 3:16 (NIV) For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. That is what the Bible is all about, it is the story of how God loves us and has taken our death sentence and paid for it Himself. See God's holy nature, which demands punishment for all sin, would not allow Him to just forget our sins. Our sins had to be paid for. Romans 5:8 (NIV) But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. That is exactly why Jesus died for us. All God requires of us is that we believe and that we ask Him to forgive us.

Something really amazing happens at that point. We are adopted into God's family. He becomes our Father and Jesus becomes our brother. John 20:17 (NIV) Jesus said, "Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet returned to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, 'I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'" Notice that Jesus says to tell His brothers and that He is going to His Father and their Father, His God and their God.

God will never leave you alone at that point. You don't have to face anything alone again. That does not mean that all your problems will instantly disappear but God will help you with them. He is always there to turn to.

I would urge you to check out God, read His word (the Bible) and find out more about Him. He loves you and cares about you. He does not want you to be depressed, He wants to give you freedom from that kind of thing. It is up to you, He loves you enough that He won't force Himself on you.

This life will always have it's ups and downs because of the sin in the world. But as a member of God's family you can look forward to eternity the way it is suppose to be. People often wonder why God allows the evil to continue in this world. Well the answer is the same as the reason He sent His Son to die for us. His holy nature demands our death for our sins unless we accept Christ as our Savior. If God destroyed the world tonight then all those who did not accept Christ would die and be punished for eternity. It would stop the evil, but God does not want anyone to go to hell, so He waits and allows more people to accept His free gift of salvation. The down side is that many never do and they remain evil and doing evil things.

One day God will send Jesus back to defeat Satan and stop the evil. Those who have accepted Jesus as their savior will live with Him for eternity. Things will be like they were when God first created Adam and Eve. There will be no more death or sickness: Revelation 21:4 (NIV) He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.

I hope you will give God a chance, as you said yourself nothing else has helped.
